Fast growing Indian OEM Obi Mobile is planning to launch Windows Phone devices in India. Speaking to The Economic Times, Obi Mobiles CEO Ajay Sharma revealed that they are planning to bring Windows-based smartphones by next quarter.
“People are migrating from feature phones to smartphones and adoption of small phones is growing. This is a right time to be in strategic market like India,” Sharma said. “By the time we scale up and close the year, we could be even looking at 4% market share.” Last year, 44 million smartphones were sold in the country, up from 16 million in 2012, according to IDC.
Apart from Obi Mobiles, Indian OEMs like Micromax, Lava and Karbonn are also working on Windows Phone devices which are expected to go on sale in the coming months.
