Huawei’s sales in the US could resume in just two weeks

After a long battle with the government, Huawei was given green light to operate in the US again. The announcement was made by US President Donald Trump during the G20 summit.

Now a senior official has confirmed that the government will begin approving licensing in less than 2 weeks which means we could see Huawei’s devices back in the market soon. According to Reuters (via Neowin), DoC will be handing out licenses in the next few weeks. The government hasn’t revealed the criteria for licensing but it’s expected to happen on a case to case basis.

The Entity list restrictions should be removed altogether, rather than have temporary licenses applied for US vendors. Huawei has been found guilty of no relevant wrongdoing and represents no cybersecurity risk to any country so the restrictions are unmerited.

While the US has relaxed the rules and regulations, Huawei is still on the entity list which means the companies will need prior permission from the government to do business with Huawei. The US market is definitely important for Huawei as the company spent over $11 billion last year buying components from US-based companies.
