Not every phone can be an exotic foldable, but the dream of a borderless phone is still very much alive and well and increasingly in the reach of more users.
Huawei has filed a patent at the Global Design Database of the WIPO (World Intellectual Property Office) for a full-screen mid-range smartphone which uses a slider mechanism to reveal two pop-up cameras.
Noticed by LetsGoDigital, the device may feature an in-display fingerprint reader, and otherwise has mid-range specs like a dual-camera at the back. The earpiece is integrated into a slim cut-out in the top bezel.
The device may be part of Huawei’s P Smart range of handsets, which themselves were part of a recent trademark filing by the company.
Slider phones have been criticized for introducing mechanical complexities and increased thickness in handsets and making devices difficult to waterproof, but of course, are also pretty satisfying to fidget with which probably outweighs all the other negatives.
