Despite a rash of early adoption, the smartphone world as a whole has united in their opposition against Apple’s dreaded notch, with a profusion of designs being released that aims to increase the screen to body ratio without intruding on the screen.

Huawei, the second largest smartphone OEM in the world, has patented a new smartphone design which goes for an unusual but obvious in retrospect solution, using a curved top bezel which leaves just enough space for the sensors without adding excess bulk or the equally dreaded reverse notch.

Filed in March 2018  at the WIPO (World Intellectual Property Office) and published on the 7th May 2019, the design is likely intended for mid-range or low-end devices which still offering the high-end full-bleed screen look.

The design patent is detailed enough to also show a dual-camera, flash and fingerprint sensor at the back of the handset, and also the resurgence of another technology Apple has tried to kill – the 3.5mm headphone jack.

Given the detailed application, it is likely the device will hit the market sometime this year.  What do our readers think of this look? Let us know below.
