It turns out HTC will need to look for another source for their HTC One Microphones, as it turns out Nokia has a 12 month exclusivity agreement on the HAAC microphones they developed with STMicroelectronics.
Apparently STMicroelectronics though the deal was only for 6 months, which is a rather odd omission for a major company to make.
To add insult to injury an Amsterdam court extended this another 10 months, meaning HTC will have another component issue on their hands.
The court laid all the blame on STMicroelectronics and held HTC “blameless”, and HTC will be able to sell already manufactured handsets.
"HTC is disappointed in the decision. We are consulting with STM and will decide whether it is necessary to explore alternative solutions in due course. In the meanwhile, we do not expect this decision to have any immediate impact on our handset sales."
Hopefully when HTC is looking to copy another company’s technology they will do a bit more due diligence next time.
