According to Digitimes, HTC’s CEO Peter Chou has said HTC intends to double its smartphones sales into China in 2009. At present this market is still small, and HTC only sold 800 000 units in 2008, but with a massive population the potential for growth is obviously huge.
HTC will rely on its ability to produce devices which supports a wide range of radio technologies, such as TD-SCDMA, WCDMA and CDMA 2000, and will also further continue to partner with carriers like China Mobile Communications under its Dopod brand.
At present China is only responsible for 4-5% of HTC revenue.
