HP Elite X3 first impressions: More than a phone

HP’s Elite X3 is the Windows Phone du jour right now, many Windows phone fan and blogger is talking about this device, and for good reason too. It is like a Windows 10 Mobile fanboys dream device not just because it has good specs for a Windows Phone, but because it has good specs period, and that’s not a bad thing to be.

We went hands-on with the device yesterday at HP’s event yesterday and earlier today at MWC to get our thoughts together on this device, and so far we’re really kind of impressed.

It feels great in the hand, its thin and light and has a metal base with a polycarb frame. The front facing speakers may extend the bottom bezel of the device, but it’s quite practical as far as sound quality goes.

The device is buggy at times, being an un-optimized device with a lot of drivers missing – really a late stage prototype at this point I believe, but the Snapdragon 820 plows through Windows 10 Mobile like a champ.

As noted earlier, the HP Elite X3 is a device that is aimed at the enterprise, it is not just a phone – it is the center of a device ecosystem that could – with the help of continuum – revolutionise mobile computing. That’s a big could, and we’ll be interested to see what progress Microsoft and its partners would have made on this front in the next year.
