Microsoft recently released Windows 10 Build 10061 which includes the new, universal People app. Just like most of the other new features in Windows 10, the People app’s development is probably not finished yet and there are a lot of rough edges. If you’ve installed Windows 10 Build 10061, you were probably not able to open the People app. In Build 10061, the People crashes due to a contact syncing issue. Thankfully though, there’s a workaround for this, just follow these steps:
- Navigate to C:UsersUSERNAMEAppDataLocalPackagesMicrosoft.People_8wekyb3d8bbweLocalState (Replace USERNAME with your own username)
- Then, right click and edit the contacts.txt file with any text editor
- Delete all the lines after the first line and keep the last line – it should look something like this.
- Now close the text editor and open the People app – it should startup now.
Keep in mind that this won’t permanently fix the People app – you’ll need to edit and remove all the contacts from the contact.txt file every time you want to open the app. Additionally, you won’t see any contacts on the People app either and it may crash randomly as well. However, this will give a decent idea of how the People app will look once its development is complete.
Thanks, Vitor M. for the tip!
