Hack allows non-Lumia users to download Nokia exclusive apps

Chinese hacker Reker has found an interesting hack which allows the 14% of Windows Phone users who are not using Lumia handsets to download some of Nokia’s exclusive apps.

The hack, which appears to use a WIFI proxy server to trick Microsoft’s servers into thinking you have a Lumia, will allow users to download many of Nokia’s more than 50 exclusive apps, but those who try often run into problems installing the apps.

The video above does show however that some applications do work, such as Temple Run, which is shown to work pretty well on the Huawei Ascend W1. It does not seem to allow Nokia users access to HTC or Samsung’s collection of exclusive apps however.

We think the hack will have a rather limited impact – exclusive apps is just one reason to get a Lumia, and it will probably be patched soon.  It does however shown that no system is infallible.
