GPS Calculator app updated, adds support for Google maps and other features.

New exiting features are now available in GPS Calculator app!

In case you do not know, GPS Calculator is a powerful tool for all kinds of navigational computations (projection, distance, area, time, moon and sun, altimeter, compass navigation, magnetic declination, track recording, coordinate format conversion, etc.). It is the most powerful and full featured tool in its class on windows phone and, possibly, on any mobile platform. It allows you to use your windows phone as a powerful GIS tool, on par with professional GPS systems. It works both for Windows Phone 8 and 7, has been featured on this very site a few times before, and gets many positive user reviews.

After about a year dormant, project is now back in active development and the app was finally updated in the windows phone store to bring new exciting features and possibilities. Most importantly GPS Calculator users now have a choice of three different mapping providers – Bing Maps, Google Maps and OpenStreetMap. Google Maps option is particularly interesting, since it provides not only regular street map and satellite imagery, but also full topographical map and the minimalistic outline map (looks really cool, btw).

Other new features include driving bing driving directions, faster and better area calculation screen and other new features and bug fixes. You can read full changelog here.

Somewhat ironically, GPS Calculator was, unfortunately, also affected by recent US government shutdown. Two government web services (magnetic declination and USGS elevation database) were turned off during the shutdown period. However now that US government is back in business all functions of the app are now live again.

As always, you can download full featured ad-free version of this powerful tool absolutely free from windows phone store here. Or, if you feel generous and want to support this development, you can grab GPS Calculator PRO for just 1.99.
