Google wants to crowd-source food photos for Google Maps

Google is working on adding a new feature that will ask users to upload food photos on Google Maps for other commuters. The new feature was spotted by a user on Twitter and is currently being tested by Google.

The feature was first spotted by two users on Twitter and shows the new “popular dishes” option inside the menu tab. The popular dishes tab fetches the photos of dishes that are popularly cited in reviews and shared on Google Maps to create a nested list showing the highlights of the restaurant.

This new addition should bring Google Maps closer to services like Yelp and Foursquare. We don’t have any word on when the feature will make it to the public channel but it should soon provided everything goes according to the plan.
