On May 20, 2025, at Google I/O, the company unveiled Gemini’s integration in Android Auto and Android Automotive OS, marking a shift in in-car technology.
Gemini, Google’s AI assistant, now integrates into vehicles, enabling drivers to use natural voice commands for tasks like finding charging stations or retrieving directions from emails.
Android Auto’s ecosystem has expanded, with nearly 250 million compatible vehicles and over 300 apps optimized for in-car use. New app categories include weather, games, and video, enhancing the driving experience.

Developers benefit from updated tools, such as the Car App Library 1.8 alpha release and the Car Ready Mobile Apps Program, facilitating the creation of adaptive mobile apps for cars.
Volvo leads as the first automaker to integrate Gemini into its vehicles, including the upcoming EX90 electric SUV, which will run on Android 15.
These advancements position Android Auto and Automotive OS as central platforms for connected car experiences, blending AI capabilities with user-friendly interfaces.
