Google announces a new policy on Chrome desktop to block unwanted autoplays

Google today announced a new policy on Chrome desktop to block unwanted autoplays. Google Chrome will initially allow autoplay for over 1,000 sites where the highest percentage of visitors play media with sound. Later, based on your browsing habits, Chrome will learn and enable autoplay on sites where you play media with sound during most of your visits, and disables it on sites where you don’t.

Till Chrome completely understands your preferences, you may need to click “play” every now and then. But Google believes that this new policy blocks about half of unwanted autoplays. The policy is already live in the latest version of Chrome.
