Game Review: Taptitude Dodge Ball

If you enjoy quick and free reaction games, then the Taptitude brand has what you’re looking for.

Overall Score: 3/5

Even though the game is fun and simple, its controls hurt it and the lasting value is limited.

Gameplay: 3/5

In this dodge ball game, you control your own ball and have to move it around your phone’s screen in order to dodge incoming balls. You control it by tilting your phone. However, unlike most games that will automatically configure your accelerometer to whatever viewing angle you start the game at, this game must be played holding the phone level with the ground. That means you can’t sit leaning back in a chair and play the game. Control issue aside, the game is really fun to play thanks to the pattern that the incoming balls approach you at. This pattern progressively becomes tougher, but gives you a chance to use some logic in avoiding the projectiles. And the online leaderboards motivate you to try again and again for a higher score.

Presentation: 3/5

The visuals are great and the menu interface is fluid and smooth, but the game completely lacks music/sound effects, which could have added more to the game.

Lasting Value: 3/5

All of the Taptitude games are meant to be quick and addicting games where you compete for high scores. Dodge Ball includes an online leaderboard with weekly and all-time high scores, and a local high score section, but it is still short on lasting value since playing the same thing over and over again most likely won’t last you 2 hours. Nevertheless, it’s fun and free!
