Game Review: Speed

Speed is a well known card game that’s perfect for making time pass by. Thanks to developer Jimmy Dickinson, it has been accurately digitized into a great WP7 game!

Overall Score: 3/5

If you’re looking for the best Speed card game on WP7, then Speed is your only choice! It may only have an average overall score, but the low points won’t really be noticed when you’re actually playing the game!

Gameplay: 4/5

The controls for the game work perfectly (except when in the two player mode, one player can’t draw new cards while the other player is dragging a card). The gameplay against another player or the computer is extremely fun and identical to the actual card game experience. There’s a number of different difficulties for the computer, so you can work to improve your skill level. It does everything perfectly and also helps you learn to play the game! If that little complaint about the controls was fixed, it would be perfect, but it’s still an amazing game!

Presentation: 2/5

The game lacks sounds and doesn’t resume. The sounds would be extremely helpful since it would give you an auditory clue as to when the computer placed a new card on the gameboard. And resuming is important even though the games only last about 2 minutes. If you have to turn the screen off for a second or reply to a text, your game progress is lost! The visuals, however, look nice and are smooth.

Lasting Value: 4/5

The lasting value could be made perfect with the inclusion of some online high scores, but thanks to the two player mode and various computer difficulty settings, the lasting value is still very high.
