Game Review: Naval Battle X

Naval Battle X is an online multiplayer Battleship game that’s currently in alpha stage but is free to download.

Overall Score: 3/5

All this game needs is the finishing touches. The gameplay is good but is a little unfinished, and the lasting value could use some final touches too. However, for an alpha, the game is looking to be pretty solid.

Gameplay: 3/5

The online gameplay is perfect and works really quickly (when enough people are playing), and the controls work great too. However, when you get to the end of the game, the game freezes and it never properly ends the game. This is an alpha, so that will surely be fixed, but right now it definitely has its imperfections. It would also be better if you could start a game with a specific friend, or have push notifications and play the game in the background. But the game has the underlying components of the multiplayer working perfectly, so it is off to a good start.

Presentation: 4/5

The game looks pretty good, but personally I think a more realistic visual style would look better. Nevertheless, the visuals have some great touches that help indicate when it’s your turn. Also, the sound effects are great since they instantly tell you if your missile hit, and they notify you when it’s your turn.

Lasting Value: 3/5

Currently, the game needs to have the win/loss screen fixed and a ranking system for it to have better lasting value. Once the game is finished, the lasting value and gameplay should be pretty great.
