Game Review: Contre Jour

Contre Jour is a unique oasis of beautiful visuals and lovely music.

Overall Score: 5/5

Fantastic presentation and interesting gameplay make this game worth trying.

Gameplay: 5/5

Contre Jour is a slower-paced logic game. If you want action and adventure, look elsewhere. The controls in Contre Jour are unique but work wonderfully. You can expand or shrink land masses with a touch of your finger, and attach ropes to your little monster eye creature by simply dragging the rope onto the eye. Multitouch works perfectly (and is often required in later levels). Some levels truly require some thinking in order to collect all the glowing orbs before getting to the finish. There are even portals in later levels which add more complexity and variety!

Presentation: 5/5

Okay, this game’s presentation is wonderful. The music is oh-so-lovely. I want to lay in a grassy field at night listening to the song from chapter 4 while watching the stars subtly twinkle (this chapter is rightly called “Moonlight”). The visual design is unique and great. The frame rate is fluid and the physics look perfectly natural.

Lasting Value: 4/5

The lasting value comes in at about 4 hours which is pretty good. You can always replay levels to try and get higher scores too.QRCode
