We have heard vague rumours about a new OneDrive Music Locker but Michael Gillett at Piptell has found the source of the rumours in black and white in the resource files on the OneDrive website.

The text in the files confirm earlier rumours such as:

The regions which will have access:

‘LockerInSelectRegions’: ‘* Argentina, Australia, Austria, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, Denmark, Finland, France,  Germany,  Ireland,  Italy,  Mexico, Netherlands,  New Zealand,  Norway,  Portugal,  Spain,  Sweden,  Switzerland,  United Kingdom,  United States’,

The nature of the service:

‘LockerWelcomePageHeader’: ‘Play the music you already own on all your Windows and Xbox devices’,

‘LockerLandingPagePanelDescription2’: ‘Listen to the music you store in OneDrive using Xbox Music on the web or on your mobile device.’,

‘LockerLandingPagePanelTitle1’: ‘One place for all your music’,
‘LockerLandingPageTitle’: ‘Take your music with you wherever you go.’,

‘LockerWelcomePageMessage’: ‘All the songs in your OneDrive Music folder are automatically added to your Xbox Music Library. You can play them from your Windows Phone 8.1, Windows 8.1 PC or tablet, Xbox, or on the web.’,

The 20 GB free for new users:

The formats supported are MP3, M4A (AAC) and WMA formats:

‘YouCanAddMusicFiles’: ‘You can add music files in MP3, M4A (AAC) and WMA formats. WMA files can be played on your Windows Phone 8.1, Windows 8.1 PC or tablet or Xbox.’,

Users will be able download their music from OndeDrive but not share it.

‘YouCanDownloadLockerMusicFilesFrom’: ‘Yes. You can download OneDrive music files from your Windows Phone 8.1, Windows 8.1 PC or tablet.’,

Users can use the service without subscribing to an Xbox Music pass:

All music on OneDrive will be available to stream:

‘LockerDisclaimer’: ‘All the music you upload to OneDrive automatically appears in your collection and can be streamed from all your Xbox Music devices.’,

There will be a specific locker app, designed to help users upload their music:

‘GetTheLockerApp’: ‘Get the OneDrive app’,
‘TheEasiestWayToUploadIsWithLockerApp’: ‘The easiest way to upload is with the {0}OneDrive app{1}.’,
‘TheEasiestWayToUploadIsWithLockerJustAddToMusicFolder’:

The only thing which the website does not answer is when the service will arrive, but it seems nearly everything is in place already suggesting it will be pretty soon.
