We have seen fingerprint scanners in portable systems since last decade. Lot of laptops and nowadays even smartphone embeds this technology for user authentication. Fujitsu is now trying to replace this fingerprint scanners with Palm Vein sensors in its business laptops in coming months. It almost looks like the fingerprint scanner, but the main difference is that you don’t have to touch it. You should place your palm above the sensor as you can see in the image above to authenticate your device. Also this system requires a live hand to make the authentication, so someone can’t cut off your hand and use it for unlocking your device.

Fujitsu believes that palm vein sensing is around a thousand times more secure than conventional biometric methods. Hopefully, we will see them in more devices in the future.
