feed me 1.6 – now with HD YouTube video

screenshot1screenshot2

Have you ever wanted to see when new videos have been uploaded to YouTube directly on a live tile? Read on…

feed me version 1.6 is now available on the marketplace. Now feed me offers full support for YouTube feeds, allowing you to set up 7 different types of feed quickly and easily:

  • User uploads (just enter a username)
  • Video search (enter the keywords)
  • Top rated
  • Top favourites
  • Most popular
  • Most viewed
  • Most recent

The last five can be set to a specific region (or left non region-specific).

The videos are laid out differently to normal articles, with a video thumbnail, rating, uploader and description (see the screenshot above). Clicking on the thumbnail starts the video in the integrated player, allowing HQ and HD playback over 3G without leaving
the app (leaving updates and any podcast downloads you may have started running in the background). Of course these feeds can be selected for the live tile just like any other so you can see at a glance when a new video has been uploaded.

All the YouTube version 2 feeds documented here are supported and should you add one of these feeds manually, it will be automatically recognized and displayed properly.

With feed me 1.6 you can also post articles to facebook, you can listen to podcasts while reading other articles and in the group settings you can choose to hide all of the read articles for that group. Check out the video below for a quick tour.

You can view a full change list on the website and you can get the update here (opens Zune).
