Facebook is taking on change.org in its own way. Facebook’s upcoming feature called Community Actions that will allow users to make political demands. Community Actions are nothing but Facebook pages with ‘Support’ button instead of ‘Like’ button. You will be able to give a title to your action, describe it, add images and tag relevant government agencies and officials who’ll be informed about this page. And as you expect, it comes with support for other Facebook features like newsfeed where you can have discussions on the page, Facebook events to organize meetups and more.
“Building informed and civically engaged communities is at the core of Facebook’s mission. Every day, people come together on Facebook to advocate for causes they care about, including by contacting their elected officials, launching a fundraiser, or starting a group. Through these and other tools, we have seen people marshal support for and get results on issues that matter to them. Community Action is another way for people to advocate for changes in their communities and partner with elected officials and government agencies on solutions.”
For now, Facebook is focusing on government related issues with Community Actions. But when it opens up for other issues, you all will know the fate of change.org!
