Facebook suddenly started allowing political campaigns to lie in ads over the past week, and US presidential candidate Elizabeth Warren has taken them to task over it.

Posting an ad with a demonstrable falsehood, she aims to highlight Facebook’s dubious new policy.

The ad reads;

Breaking news: Mark Zuckerberg and Facebook just endorsed Donald Trump for re-election.

You’re probably shocked, and you might be thinking, “how could this possibly be true?”

Well, it’s not. (Sorry.) But what Zuckerberg *has* done is given Donald Trump free rein to lie on his platform — and then to pay Facebook gobs of money to push out their lies to American voters.

If Trump tries to lie in a TV ad, most networks will refuse to air it. But Facebook just cashes Trump’s checks.

Facebook already helped elect Donald Trump once. Now, they’re deliberately allowing a candidate to intentionally lie to the American people. It’s time to hold Mark Zuckerberg accountable—add your name if you agree.

Facebook fell under criticism this week for the very same concept. While the firm initially pledged to root out fake news on its platform, it removed that clause this year to extend protection to political ads for $ome rea$on.

The firm earlier said, in defense to being called out; “Facebook’s fundamental belief in free expression, respect for the democratic process, and the belief that, in mature democracies with a free press, political speech is already arguably the most scrutinized speech there is.”

With this ad, Facebook’s own tools are now being used against it, and it has placed itself in a win-win situation.

“If Senator Warren wants to say things she knows to be untrue, we believe Facebook should not be in the position of censoring that speech,” a Facebook spokesperson told CNN, through gritted teeth, we’d like to imagine.
