Reports from the last couple of weeks have indicated that Playground Games, the developer behind the Forza Horizon series, is working away on the next Fable game, rumored to be Fable 4. Though the franchise’s original developer, Lionhead Studios, was shuttered, Fable creator Peter Molyneux has shared what he’d like to see from the next Fable game with IGN.
“The Fable story hinted at a dramatic time before Fable 1 when the Guild was founded, this would be a perfect setting for Fable 4,” Molyneux said, noting “the land of Albion would be much more primitive, the magic much more attuned to nature, the combat much more brutal.”
He went on to say that he’d “love to see brutal, visceral and fluid combat system that left permanent scars. Weapons like short swords, long swords, daggers, spears, long bows and crossbows all having a there own combat feel and specialties.”
Some other improvements he’d like to see include an overhauled magic system, giving players the “ability to ‘craft’ your own unique system.” In addition, players could choose a familiar that “assists you with magic and bonds with you.”
Lasty, Molyneux said he’d like for the next Fable game to contain a creature bestiary “with hordes of small creatures,” as well as rideable dragons and “god-sized giants.”
Neither Playground nor Microsoft have confirmed a new Fable title. Playground Creative Director Ralph Fulton did however state that the studio’s next game will be developed with the Xbox One X as its lead platform. With Microsoft’s news today that all Xbox exclusive Microsoft Studios games going forward will be added to Xbox Game Pass the same date as their global release, it can be assumed that the unannounced Fable will make its way to the service as well.
