FromSoftware returns with Elden Ring: Nightreign, a major expansion releasing May 30 for PS4 and PS5. Taking leave from the largely solo format of the original, Nightreign introduces a cooperative multiplayer structure where players work together through a three-day cycle, each ending with a confrontation against the Nightlord.
Directed by Junya Ishizaki, the expansion shifts emphasis to combat strategy and team dynamics. Each cycle challenges players to adjust tactics based on enemy behavior and environmental factors. For example, certain bosses are vulnerable to specific damage types, like poison, pushing players to coordinate builds and roles more deliberately.

One of the most significant changes is a combat-linked revival system. Instead of relying on consumables, fallen teammates can be revived by attacking enemies, blending survival directly into the action loop and sustaining group momentum in boss encounters.
Feedback from an early network test informed multiple refinements. Developers adjusted ability scaling, clarified map indicators, and fine-tuned balance to keep challenge intact while making systems more transparent.
Nightreign doesn’t reset the core formula, but it reworks the pacing and cooperation at its foundation. The result is a version of Elden Ring that rewards teamwork as much as individual skill, broadening its approach without losing intensity.
