Earth Defense Force 2017 and Sonic Adventure 2 are coming to Xbox One backward compatibility today

Just like a couple of days ago, Larry Hryb has announced another two games joining the Xbox One backward compatibility catalogue today. Coming to the program this time are Earth Defense Force 2017 and Sonic Adventure 2.

Again, it’s not exactly an impressive showing of titles, but Sonic is a popular series and Sonic Adventure 2 received good reviews upon its initial release in 2001. Sonic Adventure 2 was ported to Xbox 360 around five years ago. The game features the series’ modern 3D visuals divided into two campaigns with different gameplay styles based on whichever character you are playing. Sonic and Shadow get fast-paced platforming sections; Tails and Eggman get multi-directional shooting; and Knuckles and Rouge get exploration areas.

Despite its name, Earth Defense Force 2017 did not release this year. The game first came to Xbox 360 over ten years ago as a follow-up to Global Defense Force. After signs of extraterrestrial life are picked up, the world develops a unified multinational military organization known as the Earth Defense Force to combat the threat. Once the aliens invade and start to attack humans, the EDF takes action.
