DxOMark reveals first-ever scores for selfie cameras in flagship smartphones

DxOMark is a controversial rating system for smartphone cameras. OEMs highlight their DxOMark scores when their devices score well and when their devices perform bad in the DxOMark score, they will come up with an obvious response that their device performs better in real world scenarios. Anyway, DxOMark has now become an industry standard for comparing imaging capabilities of smartphones.

Until now, DxOMark scored smartphones based on their rear camera capabilities alone. It is now changing with the introduction of DxOMark Selfie test protocol. The DxOMark will now test selfie cameras in smartphones and provide scores for comparison. The DxOMark Selfie test protocol testing process includes shooting approximately 1,500 images and dozens of clips totaling more than two hours of video. Every device is tested in exactly the same way, in identically-configured lab setups, using the same procedures, the same scenes, and the same software and evaluation methodologies.

Today, DxOMark published the first-ever DxOMark Selfie test reports for 12 smartphones. As you can see from the chart below, we have two smartphones at the top position: the Samsung Galaxy Note 9 and the Google Pixel 3.

DxOMark noted that the Google Pixel 3 has the edge in terms of focus system, but the Note 9 achieves better results for exposure and color. Also, the images captured with the Google device show slightly stronger contrast and a cooler white balance while the Samsung is a little better at exposing for faces and applies a little less contrast to faces, making for a slightly more natural look.

It is important to note that DxOMark Selfie rating does not consider secondary and tertiary front camera modules. As a result, the smartphones having dual front cameras will not enjoy extra DxOMark Selfie score. You can read the detailed report from the source link below.
