Square Enix will launch the HD-2D remake of Dragon Quest I & II on October 30 for PlayStation 5. The announcement dropped today via PlayStation Blog, confirming that the classic RPGs will follow Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake, which arrives November 14.
Both titles feature the retro-modern look first seen in Octopath Traveler and Live A Live, combining pixel art with dynamic lighting and 3D environments. Players will experience reworked turn-based combat, updated dialogue, and quality-of-life improvements. The remake keeps the original structure and plot intact while modernizing the presentation.

Square Enix packaged both games together to let new players jump in after completing Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake, which serves as the first chronologically in the trilogy. The publisher says the remake sticks closely to the spirit of the originals while upgrading visuals and systems to suit current hardware.
The HD-2D remake of Dragon Quest III launches first, followed by Dragon Quest I & II two weeks later. Both projects aim to refresh the series without losing what made it iconic. These releases mark the latest in Square Enix’s ongoing efforts to reintroduce its classics with updated graphics and refined gameplay for today’s audience.
