Microsoft has been criticized for its tone deaf marketing strategy for a while. From the dancing Surface commercial ads, to the iPad Surface tempest in a teacup of last year, there have been a few flubs here and there along the way.
Since Microsoft took over the Lumia line, there has been a noticeable change of direction in newer Microsoft powered models. Previous models including the flagships all had what could be described as a “pop” or “playful” atmosphere around them, the Lumia 640/640 XL ads in contrast have a more somber- some may say iPhone-esque quality around them. Don’t believe me? Compare the intros for the 630 and 530 to the 640 and 540 below.
Both approaches are really different, both in concept and execution. Personally I like the second set of ads, they are more classy, the piano music seems more professional and the pretentious sounding design text makes me laugh. But over to you readers so I don’t influence your opinions too much. Which ones do you find better? The vibrant approach or the more muted, subtle adverts? Let us know in the comments below
