Gartner claimed Microsoft mobile market share was just 1.6% in Q2 2011. Digitimes, citing industry sources, has a more optimistic forecast, suggesting Windows Phone sales will hit 5% market share in Q4 2011.
Citing the release of Nokia Windows Phone 7.5 handsets on October 2011, and HTCâ€™s new generation of Windows Phones, they expect Windows Phone to take market share from Android, which will drop to 40-50%, while the iPhone will increase to 25% on sales of the iPhone 5.
A recent NPD study showed 44% of US consumers were at least considering Windows Phone 7, and the new Mango OS has been very well received. Hopefully 5% will just be a start of a resurgent OS.
