imageGartner claimed Microsoft mobile market share was just 1.6% in Q2 2011.  Digitimes, citing industry sources, has a more optimistic forecast, suggesting Windows Phone sales will hit 5% market share in Q4 2011.

Citing the release of Nokia Windows Phone 7.5 handsets on October 2011, and HTC’s new generation of Windows Phones, they expect Windows Phone to take market share from Android, which will drop to 40-50%, while the iPhone will increase to 25% on sales of the iPhone 5.

A recent NPD study showed 44% of US consumers were at least considering Windows Phone 7, and the new Mango OS has been very well received.  Hopefully 5% will just be a start of a resurgent OS.
