Developers: You can now use OneNote API to auto-extract business cards within your app

Yesterday, Office Lens app for Windows Phone devices got updated with Business Card scanning feature. Office Lens uses technology from Microsoft Research, when you take a picture of a business card with Office Lens for Windows Phone and save it to OneNote, it will automatically recognize the card’s contact information and format it nicely into your OneNote notebook. Using that content in OneNote, you can search for text contained in the scanned business card, initiate a call to the number recognized, find their address on a map or open the attached VCF file to save their contact details to Outlook or your phone’s contact list.

Developers can now take advantage of this powerful OneNote API which converts business cards to contact information. The API is designed for auto-extraction to be as easy as possible for developers to use. Developers need to include an empty <div> tag with a few additional properties, and the OneNote API will detect whether it can extract its content onto the page and replace the <div> with a simplified rendering of the content being captured.
