Details regarding Windows apps Promotional Codes feature now available

The new Windows store brings a number of new ways for developers to promote their apps, including promotional codes.

Now details of how to generate promotional cades have become available on MSDN.

Developers can generate up to 250 promotional codes which can be redeemed on any Windows Store platform. Codes expire after 6 months and can be used for both apps and In App Purchases.

Codes take the form of a 5×5 digit number (e.g. DM3GY-M2GYM-6YMW6-4QHHT-23W2Z) and can be associated with a redemption URL (e.g https://account.microsoft.com/billing/redeem?mstoken=<promotional code>) which makes it easy for users to click and download.

Developers will be able to see the progress of promotional code redemptions on their app dashboard.

The feature does not seem live yet (at least in our app dashboard) but developers can read full details of the feature here.

Thanks D H Dog for the tip.
