It’s now confirmed! Google is indeed interested in joining the Foldable club. Mario Queiroz, Google’s head of Pixel development confirmed to Cnet that the company has already started working on their upcoming foldable Pixel smartphone.
The company recently filed a patent in which it talked about a foldable smartphone. Also, there were reports of Google reaching out to Samsung for some help with the foldable display technology. And all of this led to people thinking that Google is surely looking to join the bandwagon by making the first foldable Pixel smartphone. This is no longer just a rumor. It’s happening for real!
In an interview with Cnet, Google’s head of Pixel development said, “We’re definitely prototyping the technology. We’ve been doing it for a long time. He continued saying, “The use case is going to need to be something where you go, ‘Hey, I definitely need to have this.’ Right now, you don’t need to have a foldable. It’s kind of a ‘nice-to-have.”
However, the head of the Pixel development also confirmed that Google won’t be bringing its Pixel foldable smartphone to the market anytime soon, while the reason behind such a decision is not exactly known.
