In the run up to the iPhone 6 launch Windows Phone has been gaining market share slowly but steadily in the US.

According to September’s Comscore numbers Windows Phone has 3.6% of the smartphone installed base, or 6.264 million out of 174 million US smartphone users.

The numbers are up from 3.4% 3 months ago and 3.5% last month, and 3.3% last year September.

Last year in September there was 4.88 million Windows Phone users, meaning over the period the OS has gained nearly 1.4 million new users.  Hopefully the numbers are slowly edging into the range which developers will find hard to ignore.
