Compal’s chairman expects Windows Phone 8 shipments to ramp up in Q3 with “advanced WP8 models”

Compal is one of Nokia’s ODMs, and speaking to Digitimes they said they expect their second half of the year to be much better than the first, due to increasing momentum of the Windows Phone 8 and Android shipments.

Compal shipped only 2.6-2.7 million smartphones in the first half of the year but expects to ship more than 7 million in the second half, for a total of 10 million units, said Compal chairman Ray Chen.

He noted that in addition to rolling out more 4G LTE and multi-core models in the second half of the year, Compal will also bring out Android 5.0 Key Lime Pie as well as advanced WP8 models.

Goldman Sachs have predicted the company will do well this year on the basis of growth by Sony, Nokia and Lenovo. Nokia itself is expected to announce the Nokia EOS 41 megapixel Windows Phone in July and to release a phablet with a 1080P screen and Quacore processer around the holiday season.
