Compal to see big Q2 shipment boost on strength of Lumia sales

Digitimes reports that Taiwan-based Compal Communications is likely to see its smartphone shipments in second-quarter 2012 increase sequentially by 30-40% to 2.5-3.0 million units mainly due to ODM production of Lumia series smartphones for Nokia.

While Lumia sales have been mixed, in some regions they have been particularly strong, such as Northern Europe and USA recently, with Nokia confirming the handsets are selling faster than they can produce them on AT&T.

Nokia will also  launch entry-level Lumia 610 in the Philippines, China, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, Taiwan and Vietnam in late April, according to sources.

Nokia is struggling to get back to profitability, and has warned that their Q2 results would likely be poor, but that they expected Q3 to show significant improvement.
