Compal joins the Windows Phone 7 party, will also ODM for Nokia

Digitimes reports that Compal has joined Nokia, HTC, Samsung Electronics, LG Electronics, Acer, Fujitsu and ZTE in licensing Windows Phone 7.

The company, which is aiming to be Taiwan’s biggest phone ODM in Q4 2011, is moving all of its production to smartphones, and has also won ODM contracts from Nokia for its Windows Phones, and are looking to do the same for Acer also.

Compal’s chairman Ray Chen has said the company is aiming to build up a foundation based on the WP7 platform that will enable it to shorten time to market for customized smartphones while expanding the pool of Windows Phone-based clients, and are also aiming to ship a total of 4.5 million handsets in 2011.
