Given the size of the market it should not really be a surprise, but Nokia has revealed that China is now the company’s biggest single Windows Phone market.
China is already the world’s largest smartphone market, overtaking USA recently with 160 million smartphones expected to be sold in the Chinese market by the end of this year, up 141 percent from 67 million in 2011, an IHS report said.
However Nokia only introduced Windows phones at the end of March this year, significantly later that in Europe, but it appears the devices are having more traction there.
Despite the size of the Chinese market however this does not mean Nokia will take its focus of the more profitable US and European market, which tends to demand more high-end smartphones with higher margins. If the trend continues however we may see Nokia release more low cost Windows Phone 7.8 handsets such as the rumoured Nokia Glory.
