Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor was one of 2014’s biggest games. It was a large, open game set in world of Tolkien’s ever-popular Lord of the Rings series, and ended up being very well received, with plenty of praise going to a function called the Nemesis System. The Nemesis System let enemies you previously fought grow into revenge seeking commanders – among other things – and was one of the main things that made the game so interesting. Now both it and Talion are back in Shadow of War, which is coming later this year.
Shadow of War originally leaked at the end of last month, with an official announcement coming the very next day. The announcement was heralded by a fully CGI trailer, with a promise of some gameplay footage coming later on. Now a whopping 16 minute long gameplay video is out, and you can watch it below.
The footage is taken from around seven hours after the start of an alpha build of the game, and shows off the second generation of the Nemesis System quite a bit. One of the biggest changes is that you can have followers that assist with massive sieges, and there’s a chance that some of them might change sides after being tempted by Sauron’s power.
Shadow of War looks absolutely fantastic, and we’ll likely end up seeing plenty of the game at this year’s E3 conference in a few months.
Middle-earth: Shadow of War releases on August 22nd of this year. It’s going to be an Xbox Play Anywhere title, and one of the very first games to be optimized for Project Scorpio – if you’d like to pre-order it from the Xbox Store, you can take a look here.
