On May 23, Capcom revisited Onimusha 2: Samurai’s Destiny, highlighting the most memorable ally reactions from its 2002 PlayStation 2 release. The retrospective, part of Capcom’s “Onimusha Week,” zeroed in on fan-loved NPCs and how they responded to the game’s protagonist, Jubei Yagyu.
Capcom staff picked out scenes featuring allies like Ekei, Oyu, and Kotaro, each known for their unpredictable responses based on player choices. The developers didn’t just focus on combat abilities—they spotlighted the emotional beats, dialogue quirks, and situational loyalty that made each character feel alive. Oyu’s moral compass, Ekei’s chaotic energy, and Kotaro’s mistrustful sarcasm all stood out in the post.

Fans of the series will remember how the ally system made replaying the game feel fresh. Depending on your in-game decisions, characters would join or turn on you, giving the narrative weight and making allies more than background filler.
Capcom’s ongoing nod to Onimusha hints at the publisher’s renewed interest in the franchise. After Netflix’s anime adaptation last year and the franchise’s return to digital storefronts, fans are hoping for more than nostalgia. Whether Capcom hears that signal remains to be seen—but the legacy still has weight.
