German site WPArea.de reports that BMW AG is upgrading from their old Nokia Symbian handsets to 57,000 new Lumia devices for their corporate fleet.

The operation was announced yesterday and will take effect in 2015.  Most handsets will be Nokia Lumia 630 phones, but executives will be given Nokia Lumia 930 devices.

We join WPArea in hoping the adoption of the OS will also lead to somewhat better support for Windows Phone for the new class of automotive apps, with Windows Phone lacking such apps as BMW Remote , BMW ConnectedDrive , BMW Link Europe and BMW Wireless.

The move underlines both Windows Phone’s success in enterprise and Europe, and hopefully the combination will lead to an even stronger presence in both arenas.

Thanks Tiffany for the tip.
