BBC iPlayer Radio updated, but still a web app

The BBC has updated their iPlayer Radio app for Windows Phone to version 1.4.0.1.

The app gives UK residents live access to all BBC Radio stations and hundreds of on-demand programs, and lets browse video and audio clips.

The latest update deprecated dynamite playlists, added support for pre-roll audio/video, app cross-linking added, echo stats updated, transitions between pages altered at BBC’s request to show page loading behind an overlay, removed last played episodes from media hub, fixed network connection error messages to give delay in retry, and lastly general bug fixes and performance improvements.

The service now also supports listening to a full month of catch up programming.

imageThe app however remains a web app rather than a native one, which means somewhat sluggish and unpredictable performance, with the app currently only having 2 our of 5 stars.

We hope at some point the significant increase in the number of Windows Phone users will convince the BBC that license payers on this OS deserve better.

Find the app in the Windows Phone Store here.
