The Windows Phone Store is supposed to be growing, but an increasing number of companies are actually withdrawing their apps from the store.

The latest is the Bank of America, who has announced on their app store entry that they will stop supporting their app in early March, and suggests that BoA members do their banking via the browser.

This of course entails a significant drop in functionality, with the app for example supporting depositing checks via your phone camera, something the website certainly can not do.

The news follows Chase bank also removing their windows phone app earlier this week as “few customers use it.”

By last count there are around 6 million (and dropping) Windows Phone users in USA, or about 3% of smartphone users in the region.  It appears this number is not large enough for a sustainable app economy there.

The news cause us one again to wonder – is the US a lost market for Windows Phone?
