Compatibility and fragmentation issues so far haven’t popped up in Windows Phone world yet because of the strict minimum hardware specs by Microsoft. But that’s not going to last longer with Windows Phone Mango release and second generation Windows Phone devices coming in next 3 months. Windows Phone Mango may support features like front cam and NFC, but our old hardware won’t. Yesterday with Foursquare for Windows Phone app 2.3 release, we started seeing ’Compatibility Warning’ from the OS. This is the first time we are experiencing this and although it doesn’t make sense for Foursquare app, since my device has camera, but it shows our future where apps like Skype which uses front cam for video chat may show this type of warning for our old generation devices.
I’m happy that this compatibility issue is way better than Android’s fragmentation ! ! !
