Android “toast” ads met with severe opposition

Airpush is a new Android service selling ads via notifications for apps to monetize their users.

Regular readers will recognize this as the same service as Microsoft has been pushing (but so far not implemented) for toast ads on Windows phone 7.  The advantage of toast ads are of course that users do not need to be running the application to get the ads.  The disadvantage of course is that users do not need to running the application to get the ads.

The one app in the Android Market which actually implemented the Airpush service, APNDroid, received so much negative feedback that Google automatically removed it from the Android Market.

While Microsoft have told marketers Windows Phone 7 will be an “advertising machine” do our readers think Microsoft would be going a step too far if they actually implement this service? Let us know below.
