On May 14, 2025, Google introduced Advanced Protection for Android 16, targeting users at high risk of digital threats, such as journalists and public figures. This feature disables 2G network access and Chrome’s JavaScript optimizer to reduce exposure to known vulnerabilities. It also enforces the Memory Tagging Extension (MTE) to prevent memory-based exploits.

A standout addition is Intrusion Logging, which securely stores encrypted device logs in the cloud. This allows users to detect potential compromises and share logs with security experts for analysis. Google plans to release Intrusion Logging and USB data access restrictions later this year.
Android 16 also introduces scam protection features, which block app installations and permission changes during calls with unknown numbers, and warn users against opening banking apps while screen sharing. These measures aim to prevent common scam tactics.
