An Interview with WP7 Developer & MSP Leo Lorenzo

1)Have you developed Apps for any other platforms before? If Yes What are they?

Yes, I have developed applications mostly on Microsoft platform like Silverlight, Multipoint, XNA and Azure. I also have developed an application for android platform. It was a taxi inquiry which was submitted for my Android Competition here in the Philippines.

2)Why did you choose WP7 as a platform of your choice?

As a Silverlight and XNA developer, WP7 is now integrated with Silverlight and XNA which made for the developers of the two platforms to develop applications the way they normally develop their applications. WP7 offers a lot of control which is very helpful in designing and implementing real world mobile applications i,e. (ContextMenu, DatePicker, TimePicker, WrapPanel, etc). WP7 applications are also available in Expression Blend 4 which made it for me to add page transitions easily without coding the whole Storyboard in the XAML file in Visual Studio and lastly, I choose WP7 as a platform of choice because of it’s support. Fast, Clean and Easy to understand are the three tenets that Microsoft designed in their new mobile platform for their consumers and the developers.

3)Which one do you think as the single most feature you liked in WP7?

As a developer, I really like the new two controls in bringing out a new user interface in the Mobile world. The panoramic and pivot controls are very useful in designing a new user experience in their mobile platform.

As a consumer, everyone like games when they are bored and have nothing to do! Thanks to Microsoft for integrating XBOX live in their newest mobile platform, clearly the consumers do not need to download third party applications when they first bought the phone.

4)Are you satisfied with WP7 Platform development tools?

Very satisfied! Silverlight just released few days ago their newest Silverlight toolkit for Windows Phone 7, and as a developer, the new controls are very useful and helpful with a complete support from different MVP’s blogs.

5)What are the Apps you are developing now in WP7?Details on the Apps?

I am likely to develop more applications in Windows Phone 7 but for now all I can share to you is my current prototype project which is the Project Management apps for Windows Phone 7. Project management is a windows phone application that shows your progress and tracks of your projects. From planning, implementation and evaluation these three simple guidelines will help the individual or project lead to plan and execute perfectly the project. It also show your current project when your load the applications and shows the next project in your right screen. It also shows how many tasks you have accomplished in your projects. It’s built for everyone, not only for team projects but also for individual projects.

6)In what way Microsoft can improve their WP7 or What does WP7 lacks from?

The two most obvious glaring issues are the lack of copy-paste and the limited multi-tasking.

7)Future Plans of you?

Well, next week I will be going to have a student session at the Microsoft Innovation Center here in the Philippines. I will be sharing and evangelizing the newest mobile platform of Microsoft and teach them how to develop their own applications in Windows Phone 7.

Apart from these questions, Other things you want to share with the community?

For the developers, don’t hesitate to try new things and experience how fast and easy to develop WP7 applications. Do not live with the past, live with the present. Microsoft and the MVP’s has full support to the Windows Phone 7 developers out there, you don’t need to read the whole SDK documentation just to develop one. You can start developing your own Windows Phone 7 application when you searched one in the internet.

For the consumers, watch out for the newest mobile platform of Microsoft. I tell you this, I guarantee you that you will have the best user experience you had with your previous mobile phones.

Thanks Leo for sharing with us.I think we Microsoft Student Partners are doing a decent job for Microsoft… Smile
