An Interview with WP7 Developer Max from Comtic

1)Have you developed Apps for any other platforms before? If Yes What are they?

The Daily Horoscope application is available for Android, iPhone/iPod Touch and the iPad and the BlackBerry devices.

2)Why did you choose WP7 as a platform of your choice?

We got many requests from people that currently have windows mobile phones to develop a version of windows phone, but we were hesitant to develop to a platform that will not be updated – the windows mobile 6.5. We wanted to jump straight to Windows Phone 7. It seems like Microsoft completely reinvented their mobile strategy with Windows Phone 7 and we think this is great and are glad to be developing for the Windows Phone 7.

3)Which one do you think as the single most feature you liked in WP7?

We had no experience in developing with technologies used in Windows Phone 7 and we were surprised by the ease with which we could create compelling UI as opposed to other platforms. The abundance of samples and resources for Silverlight makes creating compelling UIs much easier. The combination of the XAML editor with the visual designer view helps a lot in the process as well.

4)Are you satisfied with WP7 Platform development tools?

Yes, the tools are great and we like them a lot so far.

5)What are the Apps you are developing now in WP7?Details on the Apps?

We are currently working on DailyHoroscope application which we want to bring to Windows Phone users due to high demand on other platforms and from potential users. We plan on developing other applications as well, but we are not sure at the moment which platform we will target first. it may very well be Windows mobile.

6)In what way Microsoft can improve their WP7 or What does WP7 lacks from?

From the developer point of view, we would like to see more tutorials and samples for people who are coming to Windows Phone development without background in Silverlight and C#. Some things that are obvious to veteran Silverlight developers are big challenges for developers who are trying to get up to speed with windows phone development as fast as possible.

7)Future Plans of you?

We would like the platform succeed very much and capture many new users who will switch from feature phones to smart phones running Windows Mobile 7. We believe that Windows Mobile 7 is a very well designed mobile system, one that can finally compete very well with other popular mobile systems and the competition is always healthy for everyone, benefitting the end user. So we hope that Windows Mobile 7 will add many more smart phone users and the more smart phone users there are, the more incentive there is for developers (including us of course) to develop additional applications.

8)Are there many developers in Comitic working on the apps?

No, we are a very small but very dedicated team. In fact we only have 2 developers that work on all the applications and the servers to keep things running smoothly and the updates and fixes coming. We all have date time jobs and do this as a hobby.

9)How much will DailyHoroscope cost?

DailyHoroscope will be absolutely FREE. It is free on all other platforms and it will also be free for Windows Phone users. We include advertisements in the application on other platforms, which allows us to cover the expenses.

10)Where can we download DailyHoroscope for other plaforms?

A: You can download DailyHoroscope by visiting this page: The easiest way is just to open this page on your smart phone there’s a short URL too so it is easier to type on your phone
