An Interview with WP7 Developer João Paiva

1)Have you developed Apps for any other platforms before? If Yes What are they?

Out of my daily work and I mean, my spare time, it’s the first time I took the initiative to develop applications. Other than that, I had experience on Windows Mobile, Windows CE, J2ME and Symbian platforms.

2)Why did you choose WP7 as a platform of your choice?

I am very comfortable with Windows Phone Developer Tools which are powerful and easy to use. On top of that, I hope Windows Phone 7 kick off a considerable community when released to the market.

3)Which one do you think as the single most feature you liked in WP7?

I love the fact Microsoft has introduced XNA support. Developing games for mobile devices it is easier and faster than ever, allowing developers with few or even none experience on game development like me ramp up very quickly.

4)Are you satisfied with WP7 Platform development tools?

Very. Indeed.

5)What are the Apps you are developing now in WP7?Details on the Apps?

Sky War is a shoot ’em up game. Some polish is still on going.

Mem Hue is a game that consists in having fun by playing with colors and using your memory. I am still improving this game, changing the keypad sounds to be more musical and pleasant instead of dial pad tones.

6)In what way Microsoft can improve their WP7 or What does WP7 lacks from?

The SDK misses important APIs such as Sockets, PIM access, Camera, Shaders, etc. Nevertheless, I hope those APIs appear on next WPDT releases.

7)Future Plans of you?

I am considering take a step forward into 3D and maybe develop a nice 3D game on my spare time. I am working on few ideas already. Other than that, I pretend to continue to do my daily job well.

I ask everyone to find out how easy it is to develop a delightful application or game to Windows Phone 7 without too much time effort.
