An Interview with WP7 Developer Cedric Tallichet

1)Have you developed Apps for any other platforms before? If Yes What are they?

I assume you are talking about Mobile Platform… as I’m a professional developer. I only have one very simple app for WinMo I developed to test the Marketplace (named MyLight). I created other application for business partners but they aren’t public.

2)Why did you choose WP7 as a platform of your choice?

I’m a WinMo enthusiast and I naturally liked many things about the WP7 "always connected" paradigm. I have a long history with .net languages. So, why not rendering public the apps I created. (I had not take the time to do so with my WinMo apps)

3)Which one do you think as the single most feature you liked in WP7?

I very like the Silverlight mechanism (data binding, animations, etc.). I think MS did a good choice to use Silverlight for "everyday app" (it’s easy to use and powerful). As Silverlight is good to show data content but may be limited for game development, I very liked the choice of including XNA. I think it will give Live Arcade developers a great opportunity to let us play with phone… The "two SDK" is, on my mind, the better choice they have done here.

4)Are you satisfied with WP7 Platform development tools?

As far as I used them, yes. Free and easy to use. Their choice to add Blend for free is a very very good idea. I think most SL developers will buy a copy for other uses as soon as they have played with it for WP7

5)What are the Apps you are developing now in WP7?

As you may have seen, I have two little application right now: a Light Saber app and a RPN Calculator. I am also working on an application for you, WMPU guys and for the french site: "journal du geek". I also plan an app to be able to "manage" your motor bike.

6)In what way Microsoft can improve their WP7 or What does WP7 lacks from?

I know MS wanted to create an "easy to use" phone. But It seems it’s a little too simple for WinMo users. I’d like to see some sort of "Advanced Settings" application. To be able to give you more point here, I have to play with a real device for a short

7)Future Plans of you?

Finish the JdG and WMPU Applications. Create My Bike app… and then…

Thanks Cedric for sharing your thoughts with us.All the best for your apps at marketplace.
