An Interview with Sketch Defense Developer Court Kuehne

1)Have you developed Apps for any other platforms before? If Yes What are they?

Nope! Besides programming macros in excel, this is my first experience programming.

2)Why did you choose WP7 as a platform of your choice?

I actually started off wanting to develop for Android, but was not impressed by how the market operated. Instead I started looking at WP7 and found that games could be written in XNA. That pretty much sealed the deal.

3)Which one do you think as the single most feature you liked in WP7?

The ability to use the XNA framework.

4)Are you satisfied with WP7 Platform development tools?

For the most part I have. Working in Visual Studio is an absolute treat and the deployment to the emulator has been excellent. The emulator on the other hand doesn’t run perfectly and I’ve found support to be lacklustre.

5)What are the Apps you are developing now in WP7?Details on the Apps?

I am currently developing a tower defense game that I am tentatively naming Sketch Defense. It’s a run of the mill tower defense game with hand drawn graphics and some fun gameplay (I hope you agree!). This video shows me dying after paying too much attention to recording the video. Keep in mind the emulator runs horribly on my system and this is just an early preview and many things might change!

6)In what way Microsoft can improve their WP7 or What does WP7 lacks from?

I think it’s too early to really say yet, but I know there are many developers out there itching to get their hands on a development device. If Microsoft wants the market to be full of quality apps, developers need to test on actual units.

7)Future Plans of you?

I hope that I can make a little money on this game so that I can justify making more games! I really enjoy doing this and would love to be able to do it full time.

Thanks Court Kuehne for sharing with us.All the best for your apps at Marketplace.
